A spread of food on a southern table can be a
great history lesson. Southern cuisine's origins can be credited to
the varied cultures of Native Americans, settlers and slaves.
Influenced by these varied cultures, rich
farmland, wealth and poverty southern cuisine is very diverse. The
styles include Cajun, Low-Country, Soul, Country and native. The
commonalities are rich flavorful food and while southern food can
be simple, it is also artful.
Georgia Brown is well traveled. She's shared
recipes and good times with the great chefs of Richmond, Charleston
and Atlanta. She's laughed and broke bread with friends and family
in places like Lizard Lick and Rockfish where they'd exchange
recipes for fried chicken, casseroles and desserts. She's eaten
barbecue in a thousand places prepared a thousand different ways
and every one of them were the world's best to hear somebody tell
it.
